Assignment One (100 points): (Expository)
Marley was such a good friend to Scrooge that he came back from the ghostly world to warn Scrooge of his terrible fate. Even Scrooge remarked that Marley had always been a good friend.

Decide what you consider to be the traits of a good friend. What makes someone a good friend?  What could a person do to be a good friend?

Explain what makes a person a good friend. Make sure to give three examples and use details to get your point across to reader.

Assignment Two (100 points): (Persuasive)
In Stave Two, Scrooge is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past. He visits scenes in which he makes very bad decisions that negatively affect the rest of his life.

Think about a good friend of yours. He or she has just told you about a decision they are about to make that you know is wrong and will have a negative effect on his or her future.

In a letter, convince your friend that this is a bad decision. Be sure to use good examples in order to persuade your friend to change his or her mind.

Assignment Three (100 points): (Expository)
The Ghost of Christmas Present is the next to visit Scrooge. He takes Scrooge around the world showing him everyone celebrating Christmas no matter how bad their situation. Scrooge travels over land and sea, even visiting a storm-tossed ship in the ocean.

If you had the power to travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and what would you see?

Explain to your reader where you would go if you could travel anywhere and what you would see.

Assignment Four (100 points): (Persuasive)
The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come scares Scrooge by showing him that his actions will lead to his death. Scrooge tries his best to convince the ghost that he has changed his ways and he deserves a second chance.

You now find yourself in a similar situation. You have received a failing grade in your worst subject and your parents haven't seen the report card yet.  You know they will be very upset, but if you improve, you won't fail for the year.

Write to your parents about your failing grade. Convince them that you have learned an important lesson, and tell them what you are going to do to avoid failing this class in the future. Be sure to follow the standard five paragraph format and make it believable.

Assignment Five (100 points): (Expository)
Scrooge learns an important lesson from the ghost and does indeed change his ways. He goes on to become a Saint in many people’s eyes by helping those in need and always keeping Christmas year round. He also became Tiny Tim’s hero and lifesaver.

Think about the people in your life. Decide who you consider to be a hero or someone you admire or look up to.

Write an essay describing this person and what he or she has done to make your life better. How is this person your hero? Be sure to include at least three examples.
